Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
Accelerate Healing
Patelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy is found to be effective with a variety of conditions. The injections are used to accelerate healing in joint injury, and to help wounds heal after surgery. If you are experiencing tendon, ligament, muscle or joint injuries, adding PRP injections can help stimulate the healing process and decrease pain. What is PRP Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma is blood that contains more platelets than normal. A blood sample is taken from the patient and then is put into a machine that separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood.
Once the injured area is numb, the PRP is injected into the area, such as the knee or muscle. The platelets break down and release growth factors into the injured area. This is seen to shorten healing time for injuries and decreasing pain.
Since the treatments use the patient’s tissue, PRP injections are safe and can be used alone or in combination with other procedures.
